In June 2025, Walmart reached a major legal settlement with the FTC. The agency alleged that the retail giant failed to enforce effective anti-fraud policies. According to the official FTC complaint, the company did not train store employees to spot suspicious transactions. Furthermore, Walmart did not warn customers about potential fraud risks linked to wire transfers.

Because of these security gaps, fraud syndicates used the company’s transfer services to steal money. Scammers took hundreds of millions of dollars from unsuspecting consumers across the country. Under the agreement, Walmart must now enforce strict policies. These safeguards will help detect, report, and prevent fraudulent money transfers in the future.

The FTC is mailing official payment checks to 65,022 affected consumers nationwide. Anyone who receives these FTC Walmart refunds must cash or deposit the check within 90 days. If you wait longer than 90 days, you might lose access to those funds.
